Released on 21/10/2009
In 2007 the IHM agreed to work with the Armed Forces to develop a Fellowship Programme specifically for members working in the Armed Forces. The pilot took was completed in 2008 and the cohort have their introductory session at the end of October 2009.
So far 23 members have received fellowship through the Armed Forces Fellowship Development Programme with 14 more taking part in the third cohort starting in October 2009 and finishing in March 2010.
In recognition of this partnership, the IHM has recently agreed to sponsor the Surgeon General's Department to participate at the Army Medical Cross Countryships at Aldershot on 9 Dec 09. The modest sponsorship arrangement will allow the purchase of clothing so that a male and a female team can participate in this event. The team is managed and coached by Colonel Alan Rees who was a member of the 2008/09 Fellowship programme. One of the team members if the Surgeon General himself, Lieutenant General Louis Lillywhite CB, QHS who was a strong advocates programme owing to his desire for greater professionalism of the Defence Medical Services. This run will be his swansong as he is to retire from the Army at the end of December after 40 years Service.
