Career Development Workshop in demand by NHS staff
Released on 21/06/2007
Eighteen NHS staff attended the workshop which included: recognising one's achievements, motivation, exploring career values, writing a well produced CV and how to approach a job interview. Participants came from a wide range of NHS roles which included clinical nursing staff, professional development advisors, administrators and project managers. All those who attended felt that the objectives of the workshop had been achieved and that on the whole their own personal learning needs had been met. Comments included:
"Helped to update CV, in particular to add a profile" "Useful interview tips"
"Was great for approaching new jobs and initiating thinking of what to look for in a job"
The workshop, described by one participant as "well thought out and run" was designed and delivered by Jane Hulley, the IHM West Midlands Regional Consultant as part of a series of educational study days to support professional development. During the planning process Jane consulted with Paul Jennings, the West Midlands Regional IHM Chair and Chief Executive of Walsall tPCT. Paul suggested that a workshop on career development could meet an unmet need in NHS Trusts since during times of change and re-organisation staff find it helpful to take time out for reflection and career planning.
One participant commented that it "gave me time to reflect, helped me to revamp CV, food for thought re career path". Another said it "has made me look at the direction I am going in".
Due to the success of the workshop, which all participants unanimously agreed was interesting and useful, Jane is planning to run another one after the summer. If you want more information about the Career Development Workshop or to suggest ideas for other educational study days which could be hosted by the IHM contact Jane Hulley.
